(Saratoga Springs, NY) – The Saratoga Springs Rotary Club will donate roughly $18,000 later this spring to one or more local charities that have a significant project needing funding assistance. To benefit from the club’s “major gifts” program, local non-profit organizations are invited to apply before the April 30, 2014 deadline.

“Major capital projects often challenge the tight financial budgets of local non-profits, and that’s where the Rotary Club can be of real help,” notes Jo Ann Buchas, the club’s current chair of the major gifts committee. In 2013, the Club awarded  $12,000 to the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation to assist with restoration of the “Spirit of Life” Trask Memorial in Congress Park, and $5,000 to the Friends of the NYS Military Museum for restoration of a painting depicting the Battle of Saratoga.

Some of the many previous recipients of major gifts have included the Saratoga Springs History Museum, the Saratoga Center for the Family, Saratoga Hospital Foundation, Saratoga P.L.A.N., the Friends of Saratoga Springs Public Library, the Salvation Army, and Franklin Community Center.

The criteria for major gift applications can be found on the club’s website, at www.saratogaspringsrotary.org. Application materials should be sent to Saratoga Springs Rotary Club, P.O. Box 1307, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.

Rotary does not provide funding for general operating expenses or fundraising campaigns. The Rotary Major Gift program is not designed for multi-year donations, and should not be identified with any governmental body or individual.

Each year, the Club awards close to $100,000 in student scholarships and donations to local charities (including the monthly donations as well as one or more major gifts). Membership in the Saratoga Springs Rotary Club offers an excellent opportunity for businesses and individuals to carry out the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self” and make a positive impact in the community.

The Club is currently preparing for its upcoming annual Saratoga Home & Lifestyle Show, which will be held at the Saratoga Springs City Center from February 28 to March 2. All proceeds from the Show are invested back into the community and worldwide programs the following year.

Members of the Club meet every Wednesday at 12:15 at Longfellows Restaurant for fellowship, lunch, and an informational program. Community residents and businesses interested in membership are invited to attend.  Information about membership is at www.saratogaspringsrotary.org.
